Norwegian-Brazilian hydrogen opportunities
Hydrogen is recognised as a key enabler to achieve decarbonisation and Brazil has been on the radar of the nations and companies interested in this energy carrier. The already clean energy matrix, the high potential for both solar and wind power at extremely competitive costs and high productivity summed to the opportunities in offshore operations makes the country a hot spot for green and blue hydrogen development.

Ceará state in the Northeast of Brazil already counts on MoUs for investments that surpasses USD 14 billion. Rio de Janeiro state also has plans to become a hub for green and blue hydrogen specially at Porto Açu area. The German government through its agency GIZ has also announced a massive investment program of 34 million euros to support the development of green hydrogen production in Brazil.

Having this background, the potential collaboration of Brazil and Norway in hydrogen area is gigantic. Both Brazil and Norway have clean energy matrix and high potential to become world exporters of hydrogen and other forms of fuels such as green ammonia and green methanol.

This web-series serves as a discussion starter in which the projects and opportunities in Brazil will be described in detail as well as the projects and technologies available in Norway to support the boost of hydrogen economy in Brazil. It also invites other nations such as Germany and Japan that are deeply involved in hydrogen economy to share their views. Important Norwegian companies such as Equinor, DNV, Statkraft and Aker Solutions also share their perspectives.
